土方巽・舞踏フィルム上映 in 京都 | Butoh screening in Kyoto: Rediscover HIJIKATA Tatsumi

今年は舞踏の最初の公演といわれる「禁色」から50年という記念の年です。海外では土方巽の再発見の気運がさかんになっています。
慶應義塾大学デジタル・メディア・コンテンツ統合研究機構のプロジェクトである「ポートフォリオBUTOH」では、「動きのアーカイヴ」の構築をめざして活動しています。
これは、舞踏の創始者土方巽が開発・創造したメソッド「舞踏譜の舞踏」を動きの実演映像をもとに解読、解明し、新たな舞踏創造を促そうとするものです。
今回の京都フィルムショーイングでは、「動きのアーカイヴ」の成果の一端を紹介し、土方巽の舞台の記録映像やドキュメントフィルムなどを上映することで、京都の土方ファンや舞踏に関心を寄せる方々に、土方巽の舞踏を幅広く見ていただくとともに、方法論的に理解していただく機会にしたいと考えています。
かつて土方巽は、京都の地で公演することに大いなる情熱を傾けていました。京都大学西部講堂でも4度にわたって公演を行いました。それだけに、京都には土方巽を知る人も多いことでしょう。
土方死後、西部講堂でも土方のフィルムを上映していますが、ここしばらくはその機会を得ていません。ぜひ、土方舞踏に新たな光をあてるアーカイヴの活動とともに、土方舞踏の真髄を見ていただく機会を実現したいと考えています。

This year is 50th anniversary of butoh, for the first work of butoh, “KINJIKI“ was performed in 1959. Now in abroad, the momentum for rediscovering the activities by HIJIKATA Tatsumi. Our project, Portfolio Butoh at Research Institute for Digital Media and Content, Keio University, is working with “HIJIKATA Butoh body movements“. The goal of this activity is to preserve a visual record of HIJIKATA’s choreography, and to provide a critical survey of the body movements in HIJIKATA Butoh.
In this video showing, we’d like to introduce some part of our activity “Hijikata Butoh body movements“. We will also put on the screen document films and recorded videos of performances by HIJIKATA, for people who’re interested in butoh and HIJIKATA in Kyoto. With that, we hope that his activity becomes well-known furthermore, and methodological investigations on his butoh will develop.
HIJIKATA ever put his heart into performing in Kyoto. He performed in Seibu-Koudo of Kyoto University four times. Films on HIJIKATA were once screened in Seibu-Koudo (Kyoto University) after his death, but we had no chance for screening these days. Taking this opportunity, we will introduce our archive project and reveal out the essence of HIJIKATA’s butoh.

Butoh Abroad Today: Its Extension and Succession

1978年に舞踏はパリにおいて初めて海外公演を行いました。以来、30年を経て舞踏は深化し拡散しつつ、さまざまな舞踏のスタイルとダンサーを輩出するとともに、世界に根を下ろし、世界の舞台芸術の一潮流として確立しています。
今日の、日本人の舞踏家の海外での活動や活躍からすれば、むしろ舞踏は海外で展開されているといっても過言ではありません。
また、慶應義塾大学アート・センターに設置されている土方巽アーカイヴには、年間を通して多くの外国人の研究者やダンサーが訪れ、その成果として、外国人による舞踏に関する研究が次々と生み出されています。
その事態は、今さら言うまでもありませんが、舞踏の国際化といっていいでしょう。
身体表現としての舞踏そのものは拡散し、変容し、いまなお定義しがたく、世界にアメーバー状に展開しているとはいえ、その国際化した現状を知ることもまた、舞踏の未来に重要なことであると思われます。
ポートフォリオＢＵＴＯＨは、海外の舞踏研究者や海外で舞踏を実践し普及に努めているダンサーを招聘して、舞踏の海外での受容や活動の実際を報告していただき、情報を交換、共有しつつ、舞踏の今日と未来を討議する場を設けます。
今回の催しが契機となり、今後さらに海外との交流と相互理解が深められ、世界の中の舞踏の意味と意義が問われつつ、舞台芸術として広がり、舞踏研究が深化することを期待します。

In 1978, Butoh traveled overseas for the first time. Thirty years after its first performance in Paris, Butoh has deepened and expanded its field of activity. Diverse styles of Butoh and numbers of brilliant Butoh dancers have emerged all over the world. Butoh today is an established current of theater arts. Butoh is more acknowledged overseas than it is in Japan. For example, numbers of non-Japanese researchers and dancers visit Hijikata Tatsumi Archive at the Research Center for the Arts and Arts Administration in Keio University, throughout the year. As a consequence, more studies on Butoh and Hijikata Tatsumi are publicized by non-Japanese researchers and dancers than by Japanese researchers.
These facts suggest that there are larger fields outside Japan which Butoh dancers can take active parts in, and that there are more non-Japanese audiences that are strongly interested in Butoh. In other words, Butoh is internationalized.

Butoh by itself has been, however, difficult to define since it still has been diffused, transformed from its original state, and expanding all over the world. In order for the genre of Butoh to survive in the future, it should be important to learn about this internationalized state of Butoh.
The goal of Portfolio BUTOH in organizing this conference is to grasp current status of Butoh, especially its activity abroad and how it is received outside Japan today.
By learning the information from researchers who are studying Butoh over seas, dancers and producers who are contributing to the practice, development and promotion of Butoh abroad, we would like to create an opportunity to discuss in depth about Butoh today. By doing so, we are hoping to contribute to the further research on Butoh and to the future of Butoh practices.

Butoh dancers and researchers who are active in Japan and overseas will present methods of Butoh training and education by leading workshops.
